An investigation of bridge scour is part of MDOT’s Research Program Strategic Direction and this proposal is in response to a specific RFP.  The objective of this research (a collaborative investigation by Wayne State University and Lawrence Technological University) is to improve the MDOT bridge scour prediction capability.  This will be accomplished by calibrating and/or modifying level 2 (HEC-18) scour prediction equations for Michigan specific conditions.  Upon calibration, the scour prediction procedure will allow MDOT to more accurately predict bridge scour and subsequently more efficiently and confidently design new bridge crossings and/or modify existing bridges.
