Student Government Positions
Executive Board
President
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- A minimum of 60 credit hours completed
- A minimum of 30 credit hours completed at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI
- Duties of this position:
- Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Student Government and Chairman of the Executive Board
- Appoint an Executive Cabinet and committees
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
- Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all Student Government Committees
- Call the Student Senate and Executive Board into special sessions with at least 48 hours’ notice to the respective members
- Speak within the Student Senate but hold no vote
Executive Vice-President
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
- A minimum of 50 credit hours completed
- A minimum of 25 credit hours completed at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI
- Duties of this position:
- Serve as the Chairman of the Student Senate and cast the tie-breaking vote
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary and ensure that all boards and committees report bi-weekly to the Student Senate
- Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
- Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all Student Government Committees
- Serve as the student representative to the Staff and Faculty Senate of Lawrence Technological University or delegate a senator for this position
- Call the Student Senate into special sessions with at least 48 hours’ notice to the respected members
Vice-President of Finance
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Duties of this position:
- Serve as the Chief Financial Officer
- Serve on the Student Government Executive Board
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary but shall not vote
- Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
- Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all Student Government Committees
- Keep a permanent and public record of financial transactions
- Report bi-weekly to the Student Senate on finances
Vice-President of Public Relations
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Duties of this position:
- Maintain Student Senate vote count
- Serve on the Student Government Executive Board
- Perform clerical duties as assigned by the President
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary but shall not vote
- Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
- Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all Student Government Committees
- Keep minutes of the Judicial Review Committee but shall not vote
- Keep a record of the history of this governing body, research and archive past events, and provide access for all students to this information
Vice President of Programming
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Duties of this position:
- Chair Student Senate Programming Committee
- Serve on the Student Government Executive Board
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary but shall not vote
- Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
- Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all Student Government Committees
- Report bi-weekly to the Student Senate on campus wide programming
- Maintain records of programming which directly impacts the student body as a whole
- Collaborate with the Office of Student Engagement on projects
Vice-President of External Affairs
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Duties of this position:
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Report monthly to the Student Senate on Statewide and/or Citywide affairs.
- Serve on the Student Government Executive Board
- Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary but shall not vote
- Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
- Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
- Keep a record of outreach and community activities which directly impact the student body.
Parliamentarian
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Duties of this position:
- Chair the Judiciary Review Committee
- Appoint two (2) non-senator students to the Judicial Review Committee
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Investigate problems affecting students and present solutions to the Student Senate
- Ensure all meetings of Student Government run according to Robert’s Rules of Order
- Introduce necessary amendments to the Constitution and/or Bylaws
- Facilitate recall/impeachment hearings
- Ensure all bills, grants, resolutions, and legislation passed by the Student Senate follow the guidelines of this constitution
- Interpret the Constitution, Bylaws, and other official governing documents created by the Student Government
- Ensure all officially recognized student organizations have democratic constitutions
Judicial Review Committee
Judicial Assistant – Non-Senator Position
- Compensation: $50 per term ($25 per semester)
Duties of this position:
• Perform duties as assigned by the Parliamentarian

Senate Body
Senator
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
- Must be currently enrolled at Lawrence Technological University
- Duties of this position:
- Attend all meetings of the Student Government as outlined in the Organizational Bylaws
- Attend all assigned committee meetings
- Introduce and vote on legislation as necessary
- Investigate problems affecting students and report to the Senate Leader
- Maintain good standing as outlined in Article XI of the Constitution
District Leader
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
- Must be currently enrolled at Lawrence Technological University
- Duties of this position:
- Serve the constituents of his/her district
- Serve as the official spokesperson of the district and communicate all updates and changes to the students within the district
- Attend all meetings of the Student Senate
- Investigate problems affecting students and present solutions to the Student Senate
- Speak within the Student Senate and vote to represent his/her district
- Communicate with senators within his/her district about legislation
- Introduce necessary amendments to the Constitution and/or Bylaws
Senate Leader
- Qualifications:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
- Must be currently enrolled at Lawrence Technological University
- Duties of this position:
- Serve the constituents of his/her district
- Serve as the official spokesperson of the Student Senate
- Serve as an ​ex-officio ​member of the Executive Board
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
- Investigate problems affecting students and present solutions to the Student Senate
- Speak within the Student Senate and vote to represent his/her district
- Communicate weekly with senators
- Issue charters for student organizations
- Appoint replacements for vacancies in the Student Senate as outlined in the Organizational Bylaws
- Introduce necessary amendments to the Constitution and/or Bylaws
- Appoint three (3) Senators to serve on the Judicial Review Committee
