SOUTHFIELD—Lawrence Technological University has been named in the top 10 percent of colleges and universities in the United States in the 2022 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Education Rankings 2021 list, out this week. Lawrence Tech finished in the top 400 of the nation’s almost 4,000 four-year colleges and universities.

“Finishing in the top 10 percent of American colleges and universities is a tribute to the continuing hard work and excellence of our students, faculty, and staff,” LTU President Virinder Moudgil said. “LTU’s unique ‘Theory and Practice’ education blends classroom work with real-world experience to produce graduates who are ready to hit the ground running in a wide variety of fields, helping improve society and the human condition.”

The Wall Street Journal’s partner in the rankings is the Times Higher Education, a global higher education evaluation service established by the Times of London, England, in 1971.The student-focused WSJ/THE U.S. College Rankings differ considerably from the THE World University Rankings, which have a heavier emphasis on research excellence on a global scale. The U.S. rankings are based on 15 performance indicators, answering the questions that matter most to students and their families: “How likely am I to graduate, pay off my loans, and get a good job? Does the college have plenty of resources to teach me properly? Will I be engaged and stretched in the classroom and get good access to my teachers? Is there a diverse campus community?”

Criteria include financial aid per student, faculty per student, research papers published per faculty, student engagement, interaction with teachers, number of accredited programs, graduation rate, debt after graduation, academic reputation from other universities, the proportion of international students, student and staff diversity, and alumni salaries.
