Lawrence Technological University will host the seventh annual Regional Stormwater Summit Friday, Oct. 4 on campus.

The event is presented as a cooperative effort of Lawrence Tech, the office of Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash, and the nonprofit group Pure Oakland Water.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 4 with a welcome from Lawrence Tech President Virinder Moudgil, Nash, and Donald Carpenter, PE, professor of practice at Lawrence Tech and director of LTU's Great Lakes Stormwater Management Institute.

After the welcome, attendees will hear from keynote speaker Erik Petrovskis, PE, director of environmental compliance and sustainability at the Grand Rapids-based retail chain Meijer Inc., speaking on “Sustainability at Meijer.”

Additional presentations will cover landfill technologies to protect water resources, encouraging green infrastructure, the effects of climate change on stormwater infrastructure design, market-based options for stormwater infrastructure financing, reviews of several current municipal stormwater infrastructure projects, and more.

The event will conclude with a 2:30 p.m. presentation called “The Ghost River” on the history of the Red Run Drain in Oakland and Macomb counties.

Lawrence Technological University is located at 21000 W. 10 Mile Road in Southfield. There is a $25 registration fee, but the event is free for students. For more information email Alyssa Taube at taubea@oakgov.com.

“When I began the Stormwater Summit in partnership with Lawrence Technological University and Pure Oakland Water seven years ago, green infrastructure was theory and design,” Nash said. “Now, we are building and implementing those theories and bringing them to wider audiences.”

The summit attracts elected officials, public works professionals, students, educators, environmentalists, contractors, water industry professionals, and stakeholders from all facets of the environmental and the engineering spectrum.
