Going Greek

Release Date: January 27, 2014

By Ashley Rogoff

Being Greek at Lawrence Technological University is a lot more than wearing letters. Greek life is about the family you become, the memories you make with your brothers and sisters, and getting involved in the community and campus to make a better you.

Greek organizations do a lot of events like the Detroit Breast Cancer Walk, Greek Day, Volleyball Blast, fund-raising events, and Polar Plunge. There’s always a time of the year that the Greeks look forward to most, though, and that’s Rush.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year at LTU for the Greeks on campus. Spring 2014 Greek Rush is in full swing right now with one more week to go. Greek Rush is two weeks of fun with the organizations.

If you’re looking for a lot of excitement and free fun, then Greek Rush is the place for you. Every organization has a booth in the atrium to hang out at. This is where every event will be; if the event is going somewhere, meet at the booth first.

This is a great way to meet the active members of the organizations, their alumni, and the other students who are rushing as well. Make sure you get out to all the booths, because choosing the sorority and fraternity to be a part of is a big decision.

There are six fraternities on campus: Sigma Pi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Phi Kappa Upsilon, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Sigma Phi, and Theta Tau. The three sororities on campus are Delta Tau Sigma, Chi Omega Rho, and Delta Phi Epsilon. Then there is Kappa Beta Gamma, a colony that can only hold sisterhood events to rush girls.

Every Greek org on campus has lunch events at 12:15 p.m. and night events at 8 p.m. All events are free to those who are rushing. This week you can look forward to events like Epic Nachos, Poker Night, Cupcake Decorating, and Movie Night. You can pick up a calendar at each org’s rush booth to see what’s going on and when. Hope to see you there!
