LTU holds vigil for Orlando victims

Release Date: June 13, 2016

Students, faculty and staff at Lawrence Technological University held a noontime vigil Monday to mark the mass murder of 50 people in an Orlando, Fla. bar early Sunday.

Speakers said the struggle for human rights -- and against international terrorism and hate crimes against the LGBTQ community -- must continue.

Student speakers included LTU student government president Alyssa Melotik (top photo), Stacy Roelofs, a senior in molecular and cell biology (second photo) and Zoe Gaber, a junior in molecular and cell biology (third photo).

LTU president Virinder Moudgil urged those attending to be vigilant for the expression of attitudes similar to those held by the gunman -- and to report them to authorities.
