Sprague wins Marcum service award for fall semester

Aaron Sprague, a senior technician with Help Desk Services at Lawrence Technological University, has been awarded the Mary Ann Marcum Customer Service Award for the fall semester. LTU President Virinder Moudgil and Frank Marcum presented the award at a reception in the Buell Management Building on Nov. 21.

Marcum established a fund to honor exceptional customer service in memory of his late wife, who held several management positions at LTU until she was killed in an automobile accident. The award is presented biannually to Lawrence Tech employees of any job classification who provide their customers (including co-workers) with quality service, outstanding assistance, and cooperation.

The award program provides a $1,000 prize, a desktop plaque, and formal recognition on a permanent plaque in the Buell Management Building. Twice a year faculty and staff are invited to nominate co-workers. The winner is selected by a panel of past award winners.

Sprague began his career at the Lawrence Tech Help Desk in April 2010 and has saved many people from complete computer ruin during his tenure. He has been described by the people he has assisted as “sharp,” “friendly,” and “goes out of his way to help.”

Sometimes computer issues are so complex that they require many man-hours to resolve. Sprague has repeatedly demonstrated his willingness to stay way beyond his work hours or come in extra early to make sure the problem is solved as quickly as possible so that others can do their jobs efficiently. Competent and well versed in computer languages, he always makes sure to explain in a way that makes it easy to understand what needs to be done and why.

“Aaron’s commitment to LTU, his efficiency and quick thinking, and willingness to consistently go above and beyond the call of duty is a perfect example of what a Mary Ann Marcum Customer Service recipient should be,” Moudgil said in presenting the award.
