Staff Senate collects gifts for Christmas

Release Date: December 6, 2013
Staff Senate Giving Tree

Helping to make Christmas a little brighter for needy children in Southfield were (L-R) Andrea Rossman and Captain Tom Colombo of the Southfield Fire Department, LTU staff members Martha Thompson, Dorrie Frontera and Mark Schmidt representing the Staff Senate, and LTU students Nicole Goldi and Angela Cardenas representing the Sorority Council.

Every year the Staff Senate at Lawrence Technological University (LTU) organizes a Giving Tree for the collection of gifts and cash donations in support of the Southfield Goodfellows’ annual Christmas campaign to provide gifts to children in needy families.

The Community Outreach Committee of the Staff Senate coordinated the placement of the Giving Tree in the atrium of the Buell Management Building. The tree was full of tags with a list of suggested gifts for boys and girls of different ages. Many members of the LTU community brought in gifts to match the tags.

The collection period concluded on Dec. 5 with a Giving Tree Party with hot coca and cookies. Student volunteers from the Sorority Council helped wrap many of the gifts.

Two members of the Southfield Fire Department stopped by to collect the gifts for delivery to the Southfield Goodfellows.
