LTU in nation's top third for student services spending

Release Date: March 9, 2020

Lawrence Technological University ranks in the top one-third of private, nonprofit, four-year colleges in spending on student services, according to a new survey from the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The Chronicle surveyed 1,063 institutions for the survey.

Lawrence Tech spends $5,731 per full-time-equivalent student, according to the study. That’s above the average for the group of $4,667. The survey looked at spending in the 2017-18 year, the most recent figures available.

According to the Chronicle, “student-services spending pays for activities designed to support students’ emotional and physical well-being and to encourage their intellectual, cultural, and social development outside the classroom. Other student-services spending is devoted to admissions, financial-aid administration, and career guidance.”

LTU President Virinder Moudgil noted that LTU “has always put the health and well-being of our students first. Physical and mental health are the keys to making the most out of the excellent education that we provide.” The University’s most recent additions to these services are a full-time clinical counselor on staff, and an app called MY SSP (Student Support Program).

The Chronicle survey is the latest in a series of high marks for LTU among independent higher education ranking organizations. Last month, the compensation analysis firm PayScale.com ranked LTU No. 4 in Michigan for the early-career and mid-career salaries of its graduates, and No. 1 in the three-county Detroit area. The website GradReports.com ranked LTU No. 3 among the nation’s top architecture schools for bachelor’s degrees, and put LTU’s mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree program in its national top 10. And ASE, Michigan’s largest employer association, ranked LTU No. 4 among institutions where its members actively recruit new hires.
