March 21 was unlike any other day here at Lawrence Technological University (LTU). Members of the Greek organizations and their fellow students gathered in the atrium for the final verdict on who would shave their head for a good cause.

From Feb. 26-Mar. 21 LTU fraternities collected money in buckets for St. Baldrick’s Foundation (, which helps children who suffer from cancer. Additional stationary buckets were placed in the office of Liz Artz, student engagement coordinator. There was a catch though! The fraternity that collected the most money did not have to shave the head of one of their members. All the other fraternities that lost had to choose one member from their organization to lose their locks.

Alpha Sigma Phi raised the most money with a total of $275.70. The Infraternity Council (IFC) then announced that if $100 was raised right then and there that the IFC eboard would all shave their heads. Within five minutes, several heads were added to the count. The grand total raised for St. Baldrick’s was $553.71.

Although the victorious Alpha Sigs were excused from the head shaving, Alpha Sig Saleh Alardah proudly volunteered to join the St. Baldrick’s shearing extravaganza. The students who had to shave their heads were Nick Greers, Evan Jones, Wendell Kury, Mitchell McCreadie, and IFC eboard members David Allen,
