Biomedical Engineering Fall Newsletter
We are excited to start the 2019-2020 school year with two new faculty additions to our department. We welcome Dr. Hao Jiang and Professor John Peponis.
Dr. Hao Jiang has joined the BME department as an Assistant Professor. He received his B.S. degree in Electronics from Peking University in 2005, and the M.E.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Western University (London, Ontario, Canada) in 2007 and 2011, respectively. His Ph.D. research was on nano-biosensors for detecting blood cancers and lung cancers based on gold nanoparticle arrays. During his MITACS postdoctorate fellowship at the University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada), Dr. Jiang studied non-linear optical effects and optical trapping of biomolecules using optical antenna.
John Peponis received his Bachelor's and Master's in Biomedical Engineering at LTU. His research interests are in tissue engineering, biomaterials, and 3D bioprinting. He looks forward to working with students on interesting projects and helping them on their journeys towards fulfilling and successful careers. We welcome John as BME’s full-time Project Engineer and Senior Lecturer.
BME Summer Camp 2019 was a blast, with 18 high school students spending a week immersed in the LTU BME Experience. Highlights included 3D printing, soldering LTU keychains, the Vicon high jump competition, a tour of Providence hospital, and the first LTU BME Quizbowl.
