He is the founder of Holding Hands With Haiti, a nonprofit mission, and is a founding board member of Project Access for low-income patients without health insurance. He is a director of the African-American Health Institute and an associate clinical instructor at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine. Previously, he served on the boards of the Kent County Medical Society and as a delegate for the Michigan State Medical Society. LaBine is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, and the Michigan State Medical Society. A retired major in the U.S. Army Reserves, he received his bachelor's degree in zoology from North Dakota State University and his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.
