If you are a student at Lawrence Technological University who wishes to pursue a program of study at another school in the United States, you must first transfer your SEVIS record. Please notify the Office of International Programs (OIP) of your intent to transfer and indicate the school to which you intend to transfer to as soon as possible. 

You will need to work with the OIP to have your SEVIS record transferred before you are eligible to begin a program of study at your new school. If you fail to enroll at Lawrence Tech University during a required semester, and begin your studies at you new institution prior to the transfer of your SEVIS record, you will be in violation of your visa status and your record may be terminated.

Please keep in mind that you must first be officially admitted to another institution before your record can be transferred. You will need to submit several documents before your Lawrence Tech University Designated School Official (DSO) will be able to update your record in the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) as a "transfer out" and indicate that name of your transfer school and release date.

Transfer Process:

  • Notify the OIP of your intent to transfer
  • Complete the LTU transfer out form and submit with your supporting documentation
  • Provide OIP with an acceptance letter to your new school
  • Transfer-in form from your new school (if applicable)
  • Follow the reporting requirements from your new school and report to the foreign student advisor to complete the transfer process.

To complete the transfer to the designated institution, you must bring proof of your admission to the new school. Your transfer release date will be the end of the current term, unless you can document a reason which requires a transfer before the end of the semester. You should not begin attending another institution until your SEVIS record has been transferred from Lawrence Tech and your new school can issue you a transfer pending I-20. Please note that your transfer school will not be able to issue you a new Certificate of Eligibility Form (I-20) until the transfer release date entered in SEVIS.

If you decide to cancel or change your school transfer, you must notify the Office of International Programs, before your transfer release date. Once the transfer release date has been reached, Lawrence Tech University will no longer have access to your SEVIS record.

Please be advised that students who are already registered for classes for future semesters must drop or withdraw from their classes, via the University's drop and withdrawal processes. Students are responsible for tuition and fees, pursuant to University policy. Any existing balances for tuition, books, and other associated fees are your responsibility even if you are transferring to another university. You may contact Enrollment Services for more information on paying any outstanding balances and dropping or withdrawing from classes.

Note: When choosing your release date, make sure you consider the affect on any potential benefits you are utilizing, such as working on-campus, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), or Optional Practical Training (OPT). Please be advised that on your release date, you will not be able to work on campus, participate in any CPT authorized by Lawrence Tech University and any time left on your OPT will terminate.
