The annual Innovation Encounter, hosted by Lawrence Technological University (LTU), infuses creativity and challenge into a competitive and rewarding weekend.

The Innovation Encounter is an entrepreneurial boot camp attracting ambitious students nationwide to develop a viable solution to a realistic industry problem.  They stretch their skills in:

  • Critical thinking
  • Teamwork
  • Time management
  • Technical knowledge

Student teams, representing their school, step out of the classroom and into a ‘real world’ arena. On this field teams must use their technical skills working within limited time constraints.

  • Risks
  • Ambiguity
  • Uncertainty
  • Chances of failure

These collegiate teams are part of the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN). They engage with industry professionals who ultimately evaluate team presentations about their proposed solution and accompanying business plan. The Innovation Encounter is funded by an industry sponsor in collaboration with the Kern Family Foundation and KEEN. The KEEN mission is to provide engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset: curiosityconnections, and creating value—embedded in the recognition of societal values, business principles, and customer awareness.
