SUMMARY: Clinical Counselors provide counseling services to currently enrolled students on LTU’s campus. Counselors assist students with a wide range of behavioral, developmental and mental health concerns in support of personal growth and academic success.

JOB DUTIES:
Provide counseling services for students at the university, including short-term psychotherapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and mental health screenings within the scope of the practitioner’s training and experience.

Provide mental health focused workshops and programs to various campus stakeholders (faculty, staff, and/or students). Outreach may consist of planned programming or in response to events impacting the campus community.

Participate in university events such as orientation, open houses, convocation, graduation, and/or Title IX training as needed.

Provide crisis counseling and support as necessary. Provide direction related to campus incidents related to the mental health of University students. Serve as a member of the Crisis Response Team to respond to incidents that surface on campus. Participate in Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and/or Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team as needed. Provision of emergency services may include day, evening and weekend hours.

Develops contacts and sources for referral for students with mental and physical health issues that extend beyond Clinical Counseling Services. To this end consultation with psychiatrists, medical providers, clinics, hospitals and other mental health professionals as appropriate. Provides referrals to the Employee Assistance Program and outside treatment providers as needed.

Collaborates with departments across campus including Career Services, Housing, Disability Services, Academic Achievement Center and the office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Participates in committees as assigned by Dean of Students on an on-going or as-needed basis.

Participates in Clinical Counseling staff meetings, clinical, and/or employment supervision as needed.

Utilizes counseling center’s electronic health record system for scheduling and documentation.

Completes other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, counseling, or social work with a limited or full Michigan license.

1-3 years of clinical counseling experience, preferably in a higher educational setting.

Demonstrated competence in working with multicultural and other diverse populations including international student populations.

Demonstrated clinical skills related to short term counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach services.

Experience working as part of a team in delivering clinical services.

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, strong communication skills, as well as commitment to workplace integrity and professional ethics.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
