SUMMARY: This position works for the Office of Institutional Research to provide the technical and automated assistance necessary to support the delivery of departmental objectives and to obtain data from the University database (Ellucian Banner) and other software systems related to Institutional Research. Serves as an effective liaison between the functional users and University IT personnel. Writes queries for reporting and for analyzing system performance (using SQL, Excel, and other reporting tools). Provides various institutional statistical data for campus administrators. Completes Federal and State governmental required reports and surveys. Supports special projects as assigned by the Director of IR. Reviews, tests, and provides recommendations to assist IT staff with implementation of system upgrades and maintains system validation, rules, and system security table.

JOB DUTIES: Writes, analyzes, and maintains database queries and scripts necessary to support reporting function using SQL, PL/SQL, Excel, or other reporting tools.

Gathers and interprets data, prepares reports for the Director/Assistant Director of Institutional Research as well as other university administrators upon request. The Data and Applications Analyst works closely with the Banner IT Team as well as appropriate administrators and staff in obtaining the data needed.

This individual is the point person key to maintaining and sharing current knowledge of the Ellucian Banner system, including system documentation, release guides, and upgrades. The Data and Applications Analyst will work with the Director/Assistant Director of IR and other academic units to maintain data integrity for all reporting and processing aspects including annual set up of financial aid system. Serves as a technical liaison between functional departments and Banner IT department.

Assists the Director/Assistant Director of Institutional Research in the completion of numerous surveys.

The Data and Applications Analyst will act as a liaison between Institutional Research and the IT Technical staff. The Data and Applications Analyst will serve as a member of the Banner Team Lead Committee.

Works in conjunction with the Director/Assistant Director of IR on special projects assigned.

In conjunction with the Director/Assistant Director of Institutional Research, the Data and Applications Analyst supports the work of the Assessment Committee including meetings with the committee members and their department chairmen, conducting focus groups, gathering data, tracking longitudinal studies, and preparing reports to support their assessment efforts.

Assists with data collection and reporting for accreditation agencies such as NCA, ABET, and NAAB, among others. In addition, works closely with the deans to provide any other data they need for accreditation reporting.

Attends conferences related to the position as required by the Director/Assistant Director of Institutional Research or Oracle training.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director/Assistant Director of Institutional Research, the Assistant Provost, Associate Provost, or the Provost.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution of higher learning, or equivalent work experience; one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational background preferably in the areas of computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or research. Understanding of Oracle Database (with preference going to applicants having SCT Banner experience). Familiarity with the higher educational environment is highly desired; those with experience in Institutional Research are preferred.
