JOB TITLE:  Library Director
DIVISION: Office of the Provost 
TYPE:  Full-Time

Provides vision, direction, planning and program development for the University Library to create innovative spaces and programs to service all customers. A visionary leader who is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the Library. Collaborator with faculty, athletics and relevant departments and student organizations to integrate and promote information and digital literacy instruction across curriculum to support enrollment, retention and persistence to graduation. Strengthens the learning environment through incorporating new and emerging technologies in the way knowledge is collected and shared.


  • Develops the vision that supports the University’s mission and goals and drives the Library’s work and message. 

  • Ensures the Library provides the LTU community with excellent, relevant programs, services, collections, technologies and learning spaces.

  • Provides information, recommendations and support to the University community for emerging higher education practice in areas such as digital collections, digital preservation, physical learning environments, scholarly publishing and data inquiry.

  • Develops strong working relationships with all areas of the University, especially deans, faculty and staff, local and state communities and other professional library organizations.

  • Cultivates strategic campus and external partnerships to advance the Library’s goals.

  • Fosters a climate that promotes and celebrates diversity and inclusion.

  • Nurtures and organizational culture of innovation, respect, collaboration, flexibility, shared decision-making and fiscal stewardship.

  • Develop the annual operations budget and provide effective stewardship of the Library’s annual budget.

MLIS or similar degree from an ALA-accredited institution is required (an advanced degree is preferred). 10+ years of progressively more responsible library experience including leadership, supervisory and administrative roles, with a minimum of two years of academic library management is required. Active participation in the profession at the local, state and national level is preferred. Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead library staff and manage complex projects in an academic library. Awareness of existing and emerging technologies and a demonstrated ability to identify those with strategic importance to the University.
