JOB DUTIES: Functions as a support to the Division of Student Affairs. This multi-faceted role will provide support services for students with disabilities. The Advisor role is to serve as the university's main consultant on disability matters regarding students and the community. Disability Services provides leadership and guidance regarding accommodations and universal access, which requires a collaborative relationship among all members of the university community.
This position coordinates the actions and assumes responsibility for ensuring institutional compliance with and response to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other state/ federal mandates pertaining to nondiscrimination and equal access in educational opportunity, employment, and participation of students with disabilities. To accomplish this, the Student Disability Advisor acts as the referral point for disability related information, services, and resources.
The Disability Services Advisor will play a vital role in assisting the campus community to embrace and embody a fully accessible and culturally sensitive campus. He/she will assure that students with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations and services to participate fully in the academic environment.
The Disability Advisor determines and grants appropriate academic accommodations, adjustments and/or auxiliary aids and services for students with disabilities in the post-secondary setting which requires expertise in interpretation and application of disability law. This position supports students with disabling conditions by assisting in identifying campus resources, development of self-advocacy skills, and navigation of the diverse and complex campus
QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s preferred strongly preferred in the areas of College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Special Education, Counseling, Ppsychology, Disability, or related field.
