LTU recognizes that the skills and knowledge of its employees are critical to the success of the organization. The educational assistance program encourages personal development through formal education so that employees can maintain and improve job-related skills or enhance their ability to compete for reasonably attainable jobs within LTU. The University's educational assistance program has two components - (1) Tuition Waiver (Undergraduate and Graduate) and (2) Tuition Reimbursement (Other Professional Development).

Tuition Waiver Program

Undergraduate

The Tuition Waiver Program for undergraduate is intended to provide eligible employees, their spouses and dependents with the opportunity to further their education/career development or pursue vocational interests. 

Full-time employees/re-hires are eligible for a tuition, registration and application fee waiver to attend LTU undergraduate classes following the first semester after date of hire as shown below:  

  • Maximum of fifteen (15) credit hours per academic year; and
  • Not to exceed six (6) credit hours or two (2) classes in any one semester.

LTU full-time/re-hires employee’s spouse and dependent children (defined as children who are currently claimed on the employees IRS form 1040 or 1040EZ) will also be eligible for undergraduate tuition waivers as shown below:

  • After one year of service, 50% waiver of tuition and fees per academic year
  • After two years of service, 100% waiver of tuition and fees per academic year

Part-time/re-hire employees are eligible for a tuition, registration and application fee waiver to attend LTU undergraduate classes after the completion of five years of service as shown below:

  • Maximum of fifteen (15) credits hour per academic year; and
  • Not to exceed two (2) classes or six (6) credit hours per semester.

Note:  Adjunct and staff employees who works less than 30 hours per week.

  • A year of service for a part-time employee is defined as one calendar year during which part-time employee has worked a total of seven hundred (700) hours.
  • A year of service for part-time faculty is defined as one calender year in which the instructor teaches at least two (2) academic semester.

LTU part-time/re-hire employee’s spouse and dependent children (defined as children who are currently claimed on the employees IRS form 1040 or 1040EZ) will also be eligible for undergraduate tuition waivers as shown below:

  • After five years of service, 50% waiver of tuition and fees per calendar year
  • After eight years of service, 75% waiver of tuition and fees per calendar year
  • After twelve years of service, 100% waiver of tuition and fees per calendar year

Full-time or part-time employees re-hired within twelve months of their termination date or last day worked will be credited with their previous years of employment.

Graduate

The Tuition Waiver Program for graduate is intended to provide eligible employees with the opportunity to further their education/career development. 

Full-time employees/re-hires are eligible for a tuition, registration and application fee waiver to attend LTU graduate classes.  Adjunct faculty, part-time or employee’s spouse or dependent are not eligible. The benefits are available following the first semester after date of hire as shown below:  

  • Maximum of six (6) credit hours per academic year.

Tuition Reimbursement Program

Other Professional Development

The University may provide Tuition Reimbursement to full-time employees only for graduate, doctoral, seminar and other professional development courses related to the employee's current job duties or a foreseeable future position at the University. LTU has the sole discretion to determine whether or not a course meets this criterion. Adjunct faculty, part-time or employee’s spouse or dependent are not eligible.

Employees/re-hires must be full-time and have received a passing grade of C or higher in all course work.  Employees may receive tuition reimbursement as shown below:

  • The maximum tuition reimbursement is $2000 per academic year for other professional development is permitted if employee’s supervisor has an approved budget.
