Frenkel’s remembrance “Galway Kinnell and the Blue Button-Down” appeared in The Southampton Review. After spending four years as a Writer-in-Residence with InsideOut Literary Arts Project, which brings working poets into urban schools, she wrote an essay about that time in the anthology To Light a Fire. Frenkel’s poetry has been published in MER, The MacGuffin, The Alembic, Poetica, and Renaissance City. Her prose has been featured in numerous publications, ranging from Vanity Fair to The New York Observer, where she was a columnist.
She wrote and edited the Detroit Institute of Arts magazine and co-authored 100 Essential Books for Jewish Readers. Frenkel earned her MFA from Columbia University while working on The New Yorker’s editorial staff. She also completed a teacher training residency at Falling Water.
