Nabih Jaber

Electrical + Computer Engineering

Department Chair & Associate Professor

Nabih Jaber is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and also serves as the Chair.

His research interests focus on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), wireless communications, coding and information theory, Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) vehicular systems, smart grid power line communications, sensor networks, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems/Autonomous Vehicles (ADAS/AV).  He is also interested in test-bed implementations, and innovative simulation system designs. 

He constantly participates in the teaching community.  Some examples include the following: obtaining the University Teaching Certification (UTC) by SEDA for promoting innovation and good practice in higher education, Leading Effective Discussions, Instructional Skills, Teaching Dossier and Millennial Student: Myths and Realities certificates.

Professor Jaber is currently the Director of the Innovative Smart Wireless Networking Lab (ISWiNLab), and serves as the IEEE Student Branch Advisor at LTU.  He has also served as the Director of the Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE) Graduate Program.

Research Interests

  • Most recently, “Advanced Driver Assistance System/Autonomous Vehicles, ADAS/AV,” which include research in object detection/tracking algorithms (ODTA), telemetry, remote communication, autonomous platform implementation, and controller area network (CAN)
  • In-vehicular speech environment, and digital signal processing
  • Smart grid communications systems
  • Development of a practical, self-configuring, sampling and forwarding scheme for smart grid transmission line monitoring, and
  • Design of Home Energy Management System (HEMS)
  • Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) Systems, for enabling the most reliable, high speed vehicle-based technology for crash prevention safety applications. This research area will be used in my current ADAS/AV work
