Lowry holds a PhD in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University and has been teaching full-time at the university level for nearly 40 years. She also was the director of the Veraldi Instructional Technology Resource Center at Lawrence Tech from June 2001 until January 2009 and served as visiting instructor of Mathematics at Oakland University from August 1980 to April 1985.
Prior to 1980, she taught part-time at Schoolcraft College, Oakland Community College and Eastern Michigan University. From 1971–1976, she taught full-time at Brighton High School. She also holds MA and BS degrees in mathematics from Eastern Michigan University along with a secondary teaching certificate.
