Kayla joined LTU's Office of Career Services in August of 2017 as a career advisor, after having served as a graduate research assistant in the Department of Educational Leadership at Central Michigan University, where she is currently pursuing her PhD in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education. Prior to her graduate assistantship, Kayla worked as the academic advisor for the Student Transition Enrichment Program (STEP) at CMU, which supports first-generation and/or Pell-eligible transfer students before, during, and after their transition to CMU.
Before arriving at CMU, Kayla served as the site coordinator for the Northeastern Unit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo (BGC Kzoo) and received her Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Western Michigan University in 2013. During her time at WMU, she worked as a research assistant for the STEM Talent Expansion Program (STEP) and a graduate assistant in Outreach and Recruitment in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, in addition to working as a youth development professional at BGC Kzoo.
Kayla received her Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a minor in Environmental Studies in 2010 from Grand Valley State University, where she was heavily involved in Greek life, orientation and admissions, and other student activities, in addition to working on-campus. This involvement sparked her interest in higher education and student affairs and prompted her to continue her education.
Kayla is excited to work with LTU students and help them prepare for successful careers in their desired fields. She is also looking forward to collaborating with other staff, faculty, and employers to provide outstanding career opportunities for students and alumni and showcase exceptional candidates who fit the needs of today's employers.
