Kristen Smith is a Detroit-based designer and educator, and holds B.S.Arch and M.Arch degrees from the University of Michigan. Kristen has over ten years professional experience in architecture, interior, landscape, and graphic design, having practiced with firms such as M1/DTW and PEG Office of Landscape Architecture.
Kristen is a founding partner and principal at Et al. Collaborative, an architecture firm with an interest in small collaborative and community-based projects in the City. Et al.’s work emphasizes creative partnerships with clients, other designers, local fabricators and makers, and community members. Clients include Selden Standard, Standby Restaurant, Innerstate Gallery, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, and Young Nation / The Alley Project. The work has been featured in various local publications including the Detroit Free Press, Hour Detroit and Curbed.
Kristen also co-founded and is actively involved with Corridors Alliance, an advocacy group which works to identify community interests through the development and implementation of participatory planning tools in order to promote community benefits for large-scale Detroit development projects.
