Frenkel earned her MFA from Columbia University and completed a teacher training residency at Falling Water. She was awarded an artist residency at Hambidge Arts Center in the spring of 2018. Her poetry has been published in many publications, including MER, The MacGuffin, The Alembic, Poetica and Renaissance City.
Her essay "Fifteen lessons from nine years of teaching" rappeared in Writing in Education, Issue Number 76, published by the National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE). Her essay “My Brother & Kate Spade” was in The Jewish News,and The Southampton Review published “Galway Kinnell and the Blue Button-Down,” her remembrance about studying with Kinnell. After spending five years as a Writer-in-Residence with InsideOut Literary Arts Project, which brings working poets into urban schools, Frenkel wrote an essay about that time in the anthology To Light a Fire.Her prose has been featured in numerous publications, ranging from Vanity Fair to The New York Observer, where she was a columnist. She wrote and edited the Detroit Institute of Arts magazine and co-authored 100 Essential Books for Jewish Readers.
