Phil Swantek began his career in media after graduating from Michigan State in 1983. He started out the hard way by selling cable TV door-to-door. He soon graduated to radio sales in northern Michigan before landing a job at CBS affiliate TV 9&10 in Cadillac/Traverse City where he met his wife Beth (also an LTU adjunct in our Media Communications program) who was working as a news reporter. While living in the beauty of the Traverse City area Phil perfected writing and producing television commercials.
Phil’s next adventure took him to Dallas where he spent 10 years traveling to the Middle East as well as other countries to shoot on location for a nationally syndicated television program.
Phil and Beth and their three children returned to the Detroit area in 1999 where Phil began working as a writer, producer, and director for corporate accounts. He has worked for the the marketing company MCCI since 2009 and began teaching at Lawrence Tech the same year.
Phil’s 35 years of experience in the media industry have earned him numerous accolades and awards including several Tellys.
