Kurt Neiswender

Leveraging his role as an architect to influence many facets of the profession, Kurt Neiswender, AIA, is driven by the philosophy that architects should be leaders in advancing civilization. An advocate and ambassador for architecture, he is deeply committed to his community and has used his position to bring worldwide attention to critical issues. Kurt was a recipient of the 2015 AIA Michigan Young Architect Award, 2017 AIA National Young Architect Award, and in 2018 was named Building Design + Construction Magazine’s 40 Under 40.

 

Kurt Neiswender is a project architect at Sedgewick & Ferweda Architects where he is guided by his design philosophy of seeking equitable solutions to create spaces that are inseparable from the existing urban fabric. Dedicated to service, Kurt continually gives back to his community. He’s worked tirelessly to bring attention to the City of Flint as it rebounds from the water crisis.

 

Kurt is active AIA Flint and has held several leadership positions, currently he is serving as the 2018-2019 Component President. He’s guided the membership, a mix of lifetime residents and new professionals, to promote the value of design through initiatives such as Park(ing) Day and the local resource “A Guide to Flint Architecture” Kurt chaired the committee to redesign this map-guide to Flint’s notable architecture, the new guide has been completed and a interactive digital version is currently being developed.

 

Selflessness is what fuels much of Kurt’s work, and his passion for his community is ensuring its resilience and leading its resurgence.
