Gary Givental joined LTU Computer Science department in 2014 as Adjunct Faculty. He graduated from University of Michigan in 1999 with B.S. in Computer Engineering. He obtained a Masters of Computer Science degree from LTU in 2008.
Mr. Givental comes from a rich software development background with over 17 years’ experience in the industry, most recently with IBM since 2006. He currently contributes as a Product Owner and Software Architect for IBM Security, crafting the next generation of security threat monitoring solutions for customers across the globe.
During his time at Lawrence Tech as a graduate student, Mr. Givental focused on Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. He was an active participant in Intelligent Ground Vehicle (IGVC) competition under Dr. CJ Chung, acting as captain of the team in 2008 and coming back as a team consultant in 2009. He also volunteers as a Robofest judge for the Vision Challenge.
Mr. Givental's core interests are in distributed systems, AI technologies, software development processes and the pragmatic aspects of applying theory to practice. He has many patents in the area of security and has achieved an Invention Achievement award from IBM in 2014. Most importantly, Mr. Givental is passionate about helping students and peers learn and achieve to their full potential.
