Stefanie Janes, MA, LPC, NCC is an academic advisor for the College of Business and Information Technology where she guides undergraduate and graduate students from orientation to graduation. Beyond helping students to schedule their courses, Stefanie strives to build relationships with each student, learning about their personal, academic and career goals to counsel and advise accordingly. In working one-on-one, Stefanie customizes program plans and career-readiness plans to prepare students from their first year to be successful not only as a student, but as a budding professional.
Stefanie came to LTU in Fall 2015 after receiving a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a focus in Student Affairs from Oakland University. Prior to working at LTU, Stefanie interned in both the School of Education and Human Services and the School of Health Sciences at Oakland University. Additionally, Stefanie was a Graduate Assistant for the Second Year Experience program at OU, where she planned programming and advising initiatives for sophomore and transfer students. Further, Stefanie served as an intern at Wayne State’s University Advising Center where she worked with exploratory and pre-professional students.
Before working in higher education, Stefanie served three terms in AmeriCorps, where she worked on community outreach and development initiatives in various Southeast Michigan community organizations focused on literacy, homelessness and food security. Her background in social justice influences Stefanie’s holistic counseling and advising philosophy, appreciating that students come from diverse backgrounds, thus affecting their experience as a student.Stefanie is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the State of Michigan and a National Certified Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. She is a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and Michigan Academic Advising Association (MIACADA). She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development with a minor in Employment and Labor Relations from Oakland University.
