Patricia Martz

Martz is a lapsed botanist who backed into a technical communication career through a stint as an indexing editor for Dissertation Abstracts International. She has also worked as a technical editor, desktop publisher, graphic designer, writing consultant, ghost editor, and coach. She earned an MS in Technical and Professional Communication from Lawrence Technological University and a graduate certificate in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. Her undergraduate work was in botany with minors in biochemistry and entomology.

Martz is deeply interested in the intersection of technical communication, visual design, and rhetoric. This interest manifests as two apparently disparate threads that move throughout her projects: visual design and teaching. The third thread, the needs of the end user, reinforces the first two. Her business experience plies these threads together through systemic design and training. Consistent visual and editorial design helps to clarify corporate identity. Consistent training materials enhance staff's ability to become the crowning enhancement to that corporate identity, enabling them to better serve their clients.

In her other life, she is a master rain gardener who occasionally blogs about gardening and draws and paints mostly botanicals.
