Dr. Woo earned his Ph.D. in Architecture at the University of Michigan; Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Science, both from Yonsei University (Republic of Korea). His work, broadly speaking, has focused on performance-based building design, mechanical systems in buildings, and building automation systems. His recent research interests are in the areas of building automation, specifically in IoT-based HVAC system controls.

Before joining LTU, he developed an MPC-based surface condensation prevention framework that permits extended use of the surface radiant cooling system even in warm and humid climate regions. The proposed MPC framework achieved cooling energy savings by extending the operable periods for the surface radiant cooling system, which is more energy-efficient than a conventional ventilation cooling system.
