Lawrence Technological University’s (LTU) Civil Engineering Students have made history!
Last fall, six students came together to form LTU’s very first GeoWall team! GeoWall is a national student competition held by the ASCE Geo- Institute during the annual Geo-Institute conference. Teams design a model mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall and submit a design report. Up to twenty teams are invited to attend the conference to construct and test their MSE wall design. We are very happy to announce that LTU has been selected to attend the conference and compete. Our efforts have been successful, and we will be on our way to San Antonio, Texas in mid-March!
Since coming together as a team, we have been hard at work. The competition rules provided design constraints and material specifications for the competition. For our design, our team completed extensive research on traditional MSE walls, tested various soils, and material parameters in our soils lab. Then we began construction on our sandbox required to construct our MSE retaining wall in for competition.
