What is VPN (Global Protect)?

You can use any laptop or desktop to connect to Lawrence Tech’s network resources from off campus by using the Lawrence Tech VPN ( Virtual Private Network ) Service. The VPN that we use is called Global Protect . Lawrence Tech’s VPN service allows University faculty, staff and students to securely “tunnel” in and access network resources as if they were on campus.


Connecting to VPN

  1. If you are a Faculty or Staff member please click the "Faculty/Staff" tab for instructions.
  2. If you are installing or reinstalling GlobalProtect please click here for instructions.

  3. Search for the GlobalProtect application on your computer

  4. In the "Portal" box type " gateway.ltu.edu"

  5. Enter your Canvas/Network username and password and click login.

  6. When GlobalProtect shows "Connected" you are connected to the VPN

    2. Search for the GlobalProtect application on your computer

    3. In the "Portal" box type " vpn.ltu.edu"

      If there is no option to enter a portal address click the three lines then click "Settings"

      Under "Portals" click the + button to add a portal then type " vpn.ltu.edu " Click "Add" then close the window

    4. Enter your LTU email address and click next

    5. Enter your computer/network password and click log in

    6. A DUO push will be sent to your phone, accept the DUO push. For more informatio about DUO please click here

    7. After accepting the DUO push you will be logged in, when GlobalProtect shows "Connected" you are connected to the VPN

      Installing VPN (Global Protect)

      1. Open your internet browser and navigate to https://drive.google.com/
      2. On the menu on the left click “Shared drives”

      3. Click “Administrative – IT Services”

      4. Click “Global Protect VPN Downloads”

      5. Select the folder for the correct VPN client for your computer, then download the file.

      6. Navigate to your downloads folder and double-click the installation file, the program will then install.
      7. Follow the prompts for install. For Macs, during the installation you may see a message indicating the System extension was blocked. You will need to allow Palo Alto to load.
