What is SafeAssign?

SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention tool and citation checking tool that is integrated within Blackboard. SafeAssign is designed to help you know if you have properly cited papers by flagging text found in other online sources and it is used to verify original works. Safe Assignments are added in Blackboard by your instructor. Safe Assignments no longer are identified uniquely but can be identified by the instructor in the naming convention or instructions.

Safe Assignments are accessed as other assignments in the course as directed by the instructor

  • Select the Assignment location as directed. Scroll and select Attach File under Assignment Submission. Optional: If this is a "final" submission (not draft) you will see the option to check the "I agree to submit my paper(s) to the Global Reference Database
  • Add any comments, if desired and click Submit

NOTE IMPORTANT: SafeAssign accepts files in .doc, .docx, .odt, .txt, .rtf, .pdf, and .html file formats ONLY. Do not upload files in any other formats

  • Once submitted, the "Review Submission" screen displays. You will be able to review your submission, however, note that the Safe Assign report may take time to generate and review of the report may not be immediately available. Once graded, you will be able to review grading and comment information from your instructor.

Student Submit SA Report

Once your assignment has been submitted and the report has been generated you can go through the report to review and identify those items that SafeAssign has flagged.
