You can add a rubric to an assignment to help students understand expectations for the assignment and how you intend to score their submissions. Occasionally, rubrics are added to assignments when you have an outcome inside of the rubric that you would like to use for alignment purposes. In addition to assignments, rubrics can also be added to graded discussions and quizzes.
Rubrics can be added by finding an existing rubric from University level, or by creating a new rubric in your course.
The first thing you need to do is be in an assignment or discussion. This example sets up a rubric in an assignment.
Scroll down and click +Rubric
A generic rubric loads, from here select the Find a Rubric on the right
Search on the left for Lawrence Tech University
Click on that scroll through find the one desired and click to select
Review the rubric and click Use This Rubric
Once loaded you can now edit by clicking on the pencil at the top right
If this is an outcome connected to the rubric, you will not be able to edit. You can edit or rename the title, delete a specific criterion by clicking on the trash can, or add new criterion by selecting Add new Criteria.
To add a new criterion, click Add New Criteria. Add description, add a longer description, and then click Create Criteria.
It is created with a two-rating scale where you can add more and you can also edit. To edit, click pencil. Change the rubric score, change title, add a description, and when complete, press Update
To add additional ratings, click on the small plus sign. Edit and when complete press Update Rating
To make the criteria a range, click the box to the right of Range and you now have a range for your criteria
There are additional options located at the bottom; Use this rubric for assignment grading, Remove points from rubric, or Hide the score total, but the general option is to Use rubric for assignment grading or Remove points from rubric
Once complete, press Update Rubric.
Click on Outcomes in the Global Navigation
- Click the Find button. You will find existing outcomes from Account, State or Common Core Standards.
- Select the name of an outcome group to view available outcomes.
- You can also view outcome groups within other outcome groups.
- When you have located an outcome, click the name of the outcome you want to import.
- Click the Import button.
- View the imported Outcomes.
Note: You can also import an entire outcome group.
