"The first half of the course is a study of literature from the ¿Victorian Age¿ (1837, the beginning of Queen Victoria¿s reign, to World War I). Literature covered may include the prose of Arnold, Ruskin, Darwin, Mill; the poetry of Tennyson, Browning, Arnold; the novels of Dickens, Thackeray, Trollope, the Brontes, George Eliot; the drama of Shaw and Wilde. The last half of the course is a study of the post-war era (1920 to 1950). Literature may include works by James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence, Yeats, T.S. Eliot, Pound, Beckett, Kafka, Camus."
