"An introduction to industrial design with historical perspective of the profession and emphasis on balancing aesthetics and function. The students will learn problem solving techniques and develop hand drawn ideation sketches, perspective skills, rendering, and orthographic views. Theme exploration will be discussed, with an emphasis on problem solving to meet customer requirements for branding, system specifications, business case, and assembly. Areas to be covered include the dissection of products into components and sub-systems with respect to manufacturability and cost effectiveness. 3D mock-ups will be created from 2D sketches. Introduction to digital modeling menu tools and approaches will be reviewed and demonstrated.
