Unit 5-Objective 3- Graphical Representation

of Complex Numbers

We can represent the complex number a+bj in a complex plane.

Examples

Graph the following complex numbers:

1.4+2j 2. -3+5j If we have two complex numbers on a graph, their sums or differences can be represented like adding or subtracting vectors. Draw the vectors corresponding to the points and the the sum will be the diagonal of the parallelogram.

Examples1.Graphically add the complex numbers -9+5j and 4-7j. 2. Graphically subtract the complex numbers: Subtract 9-5j from 4-7j Subtracting 9-5j is same as adding -9+5j. So the solution would be the same as #1.
