Cane Alert

As of 2014, elderly (people 65 years old or older) make up 14.5% of the total United States population.  A crucial issue amongst elderly is injury through falls; according to the U.S Center for Disease and Control Prevention, one fourth of elderly Americans fall each year. This causes serious injuries and in some cases fatalities which leads to a high economic cost. Cane Alert was created to encourage the use of walking aid devices. Cane Alert is a system composed of a Bluetooth attachment for the walking aid and a bracelet embedded with Bluetooth sensor. When these two devices are too far apart light and sound emit from the bracelet to remind the client to use their walking aid. This was created to encourage and remind elderly to use their walking devices to prevent further falls from taking place.
