In the United States, they are over 600,000 cases of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) per year with an expected growth of 673% by 2030. 5.7% from TKA need a revision surgery due to instability and related codes. Technologies to approach this problem consist of surgical navigation systems, which are only economically accessible for high volume centers, leaving low cost centers without a specific methodology for cuts and technologies to review the alignment of prosthetic only after the cuts have been made.

AppareOrtho is an augmented reality based total knee arthroplasty balancing system that provides a cost-effective and intuitive method to reduce malalignment in total knee arthroplasty by guiding the initiation of the surgical cuts before they have been made. This project is a universal windows platform application that utilizes point cloud data to assist in the measured resection technique of total knee arthroplasty. AppareOrtho aims to reduce pain and improve the outcomes on total knee arthroplasty patients.
