Artificial Intelligence (AI) is proven to be a key element in technological innovations in the ever-expanding digital age. As Computer utilization becomes more sophisticated, analyzing problems and programming solutions requires advanced AI algorithms to deal with Big Data such as machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and pattern recognition. The MSAI degree allows students the opportunity to focus on computer science skills combined with applications in numerous scientific areas to provide students a competitive edge in today’s advance technological landscape.

Courses are offered in the areas of Connected Vehicle Technologies, Deep Learning for Engineers, Software Development for AI, Digital Signal Processing, Computer Network Cyber Security, and Embedded Networking. These courses give students the opportunity to build on what they have already learned throughout their academic and industrial careers, allowing them to be at the forefront of technological innovation.
Theoretical knowledge is blended with hands-on experience in implementing practical applications.
LTU Faculty are expert in advanced areas such as, autonomous vehicles, big data mining, computer vision, and natural language processing, machine learning, math modeling and medical robotics (or robotics in healthcare).

A joint program between the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.
The MSAI program consists of 30 credit hours. The seven courses (21 credits) consist of six lecture courses and one graduate project. The lecture courses provide the students with AI knowledge, and the graduate project will be managed as a directed study course, that can be composed of student teams of two or three members guided by the faculty. Students may enroll in the graduate project after the completion of the six (6) core courses and concurrently with the specialization courses.
The students will select three courses (nine credits) from a specialization. The program will start with specializations in “Connected Vehicles” from the ECE Department and “Data Science” from the MCS Department. Future planned specializations are included in the list below to communicate the long-term goals of the program.
- Connected Vehicles consisting of Connected Vehicle Technologies, Computer Vision, and Advanced Deep Learning
- Data Science consisting of Machine Learning and Neural Networks, Social Network Mining, Text Mining and Analytics, and Applied Machine Learning
- Robotics and Sensors consisting of Bioinspired Robotics, Interface and Control of Robotics, Application of Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Robotics with ROS
- Cybersecurity consisting of Computer Network Cyber Security, Embedded Networking, Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems.
The graduate project will serve as a practicum and a practical excursion building AI application or a graduate project in AI.

Admission to the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence program requires the following:
- A bachelor’s degree with an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 (US students can apply with a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
- A complete Resume or CV
- Completion of the following undergraduate LTU CS courses or their equivalent. (Students with limited CS background as the undergraduate level can contact Dr. Azar at email@example.com or Dr. Nelson at firstname.lastname@example.org to tailor a plan specific to you).
MCS 2514 Computer Science 2 (Continued studies in computer science: advanced file input/output (random access), dynamic memory allocation, exceptions, classes, inheritance, polymorphism, and OOP design, dynamic implementation of stacks, linked lists (ordered and unordered), queues (regular and priority), and circular queues, templates and selected STL classes, searching and sorting algorithms, recursive algorithms, and an introduction to GUI programming.)
MCS 2534 Data Structures
Students who have completed these courses or equivalent at another nationally accredited U.S. college or university may request for a waiver. We also offer in the summer tutorials that students may sign up for on these subjects. After the on-line tutorial is complete, the student can request to take the Pretest to test out of the class. This is highly recommended, especially for International applications.
Students are provisionally accepted into the program until this requirement is met. If the requirement is not met, then the students will be required to take the equivalent undergraduate courses at LTU during their first semester. After completing with a grade of B or better, the provisional acceptance will be removed.
