LTU faculty members submit architecture proposal for SXSW 2019

Three faculty members from Lawrence Technological University’s College of Architecture and Design have submitted a proposal for the 2019 South by Southwest (SXSW) conference, and are asking for public support in the online popular vote that will be part of the selection process.

LTU and CoAD Alumni Samantha Szeszulski Receives AIA Detroit's 2018 Associate Award

Sami Szeszulski has been a passionate member of the Stantec Detroit team for over two years, focusing her time there on architectural design, programming, and planning. She received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University in 2013. After completing her bachelors degree, she was selected to participate in the Challenge Detroit Fellowship program from over 700 applicants from across the country.

Historic Frank Lloyd Wright home gets ongoing restoration by LTU alumni, faculty, staff

Affleck House, one of just three homes in metro Detroit designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright in his Usonian style, is in the midst of a restoration, guided by alumni of Lawrence Technological University, which has owned the home since 1978.

Borrow, Hack, and Ship: LTU at SouthxSouthwest

SUPPORT OUR PROPOSAL AT SOUTHxSOUTHWEST! The 2019 SouthxSouthwest Conference is currently considering including a presentation proposed by LTU professors Karl Daubman, Jim Stevens and Scott Shall. Titled Borrow, Hack and Ship, the proposed presentation will highlight how designers might expand their practice by borrowing and hybridizing approaches from other industries, incorporating hacked tools into fabrication practices and leveraging large-scale tactics from manufacturing.

Professor Scott Shall and The Palgrave Handbook of Bottom-Up Urbanism

Palgrave Publishers recently published Associate Professor Scott Shall's research into socially-responsive architectures in The Palgrave Handbook of Bottom-Up Urbanism. His chapter, "Guerrilla Architecture and Humanitarian Design", focuses upon the generation of crowd-sourced architectures within extra-legal settlements.

CoAD Alumnus Kenneth R. Van Tine Elected NCARB Regional Director

Kenneth R. Van Tine, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, was elected as an NCARB regional director at the National Council of Architectural Registration Board’s (NCARB) 99th Annual Business Meeting. Van Tine was nominated to serve on the NCARB Board of Directors by the Mid-Central Conference (Region 4), which is comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. 

Van Tine is the technical design principal, chief financial officer, and a founding partner of inFORM studio, a multidisciplinary design firm with offices in Detroit and Chicago that practices throughout the United States and internationally. 

He earned both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University. Van Tine is LEED-certified, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, and holds the NCARB Certificate. He is licensed to practice in Michigan and 31 other states, as well as Washington, DC.
