LTU Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award winner to give design talk online Oct. 1

David Richards, whose award-winning architectural career included designing the Palace of Auburn Hills and downtown Detroit’s Compuware building, will accept the Lawrence Technological University 2020 Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award in a public online forum Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m.

CoAD Faculty Honored in Crains 2020 Women in Design

CoAD faculty members Lillian Crum and Nur Saltik, and adjunct faculty members Tiffany Brown and Laura Walker, were recently named to the prestigious Crain's 2020 Women in Design. The Women in Design award celebrates women from all areas of design, based on their career accomplishments, track record of success in the field, contributions to their community, and mentorship of others.

LTU Faculty Featured in Upcoming Exhibition

Director of Industrial Design Nur Saltik and adjunct faculty Evan Fey will be featured in Never Normal, an upcoming exhibition by Form&Seek that expresses the ever-changing viewpoint of the designer’s perspective on the built world. Part of Detroit Month of Design the exhibition runs from September 17–December 12 with an RSVP required virtual opening on the 17th and by appointment viewing after that.

Cultures of Online Teaching and Learning

LTU faculty members Anirban Adhya, Philip Plowright, Kristen Smith, and Jason Yeom participated in an ASCA panel discussion, hosted by CoAD Dean Karl Daubmann, to discuss and present examples of framework, processes, and strategies for learning and cultivating productive studio cultures in an online environment. The offered conversation is rooted on ten years of teaching architecture and design programs using on-campus, online, and hybrid delivery modes.

On August 17, CoAD faculty Karl DaubmannAnirban Adhya, Eric Ward, and Sara Codarin presented opportunities for professional evolution prompted by the current Covid-19 pandemic. This presentation, hosted by Educational Dynamics, highlighted impactful, Covid-inspired shifts in technology, construction and urbanism.

LTU Student Presenting at Fall 2020 Michigan Academy Conference

CoAD student Nikola Gjurchinoski, advised by faculty member Dan Faoro, will present his research as a part of a Research Assistantship with Professor Faoro, at the Fall 2020 Michigan Academy Conference. The academy is a professional non-profit association that fosters scholarly dialogue from faculty and graduate students of its member institutions.

CoAD Students Sweep Design Competition

Architecture students at LTU have swept the awards at the 2019-20 U.S. Green Building Council Detroit Region Student Design Competition.  The competition challenges students, working individually or in teams of up to six students, to submit projects that use a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems and technology to provide sustainable architectural solutions that protect and enhance the environments. Congratulations to Kayla Tear, Nick Crawford, Trent Schmitz, Andy Donlin, Evelyn Ehgotz and Thea Donahue!

LTU Alum speaks on leadership to Architectural Record

Tiffany Brown, BS Arch 2004 + M Arch 2007 + MBA 2015, recently spoke to Architectural Record about inclusivity in the architectural field.

As a leader in the architectural community, Ms. Brown provides information on how her initiative 400 Forward works to provide Black women with mentorship in the architectural profession.  She is also an executive board member for the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), through which she advocates for diversity and fellowship in the architectural community.

LTU Alum Ian Broekman featured in AutoWeek Review

Ian Broekman, Chief Innovation Officer at MI-Spec Automotive (MSA), was featured in AutoWeek.  Broekman focuses on design and branding at MSA, an aftermarket specialist based in Auburn hills. Their Ford F-150 package features an improved engine, a molded fiberglass front fender, new grille, logo, pushbar and lights as well as many other new graphics.
