Andrea Bogart

DCDT Manager
College of Architecture and Design

Andrea BogartDCDT Manager, is also the curator for the DCDT Woodward and Corridor galleries through her arts economic development startup, Embrace Creatives. Bogart, a professional fine artist, art business consultant and arts advocate enjoyed a community partnership with the DCDT prior to her joining in January, 2019.  After studying fine art at the University of Michigan she transferred to the Fashion Institute of Technology, in New York City, where Bogart lived for 30 years before moving home in 2014 to support artists and designers in Southeastern Michigan.

Learning business skills as the Assistant Merchandiser for Perry Ellis Portfolio Menswear and the Director of Merchandising and Operations for Isaac Mizrahi, Ltd., Bogart began a jewelry design company and used her dual mindset to build a successful brand, selling her artwork at galleries, Bloomindgales and Henri Bendels, NYC.   Seeing other artists struggle with the business end of creativity, she established a private coaching firm in 2011 to empower her peers in basic entrepreneurial strategies. After moving back to Detroit in 2014, she renamed it Detroit Art & Business Institute and strengthened the educational programming options.

In addition to coaching creative business owners one-on-one, Bogart educates artists and designers through non-profits and foundations via speaking engagements, panel discussions and workshops. Seeing the need for a more robust and comprehensive creative business training, she developed her Mind Your Art Business Growth Course which she teaches in person and has made available, online - all in an effort to guide artists and designers to greater business clarity, reduced stress and increased profits.

To connect a global audience of Artists and Commercial Art Buyers, in 2017 Bogart launched Embrace Creatives, a professional business network dedicated to igniting an empowerment movement for artists. This new journey is exhilarating to her because she’s learning new skills, a new tech language and is opening door for emerging and established artists to find their peers, get studio and enterprise questions answered and increase sales opportunities.

Joining the DCDT, Bogart brings her wealth of creative entrepreneurial know-how, extensive metro Detroit network and invaluable, customer care experience to their tenants, CoWork members and rental clients.

Bogart was born in Virginia, raised in Oak Park and West Bloomfield, MI then moved to New York where she got married, divorced, raised her children and grew her entrepreneurial careers. Currently she and her husband, David live in Oakland County.
