We are excited to welcome you to Lawrence Tech. Please time your arrival for one week before the start of classes, so you can attend the mandated International Student Welcome Week, but no more than the 30 days before the starting date of classes listed on the I-20.
When you are preparing to depart to the U.S., please ensure you have made plans for housing. If you wish to live in the University's on-campus housing, you must complete and submit an application along with a $200 deposit before your arrival at Lawrence Tech. Housing cannot be guaranteed for students who have not completed an application. Apply online at your status page: www.ltu.edu/statuspage.
Your visa allows you to book travel to the United States. Detroit Metropolitan Airport (code: DTW) is approximately 30 minutes by car from Lawrence Tech. Be sure to confirm your move-in date with University Housing if you will be residing on campus prior to scheduling travel. Taxi service is available from the airport to Lawrence Tech. Please be sure to have a copy of the address of the University or the hotel where you will be staying until you check into Univerity Housing or other living arrangements. We recommend having at least $90 to cover the cost of a taxi ride. Ride share services such as Lyft, and Uber are common in Metro Detroit as well if you prefer to use those services.
Be sure to have your necessary information in your carry-ons. Do not pack them in your suitcases. You will need the following readily available:
You must attend International Student Welcome Week. It starts one week prior to the opening of classes. During Welcome Week you will learn how to access campus resources, about required health insurance and maintaining your international student status. Missing Welcome Week may jeopardize their ability to enroll at Lawrence Tech.
