Call for Proposals
The Veraldi Instructional Technology Resource Center (VITRC) requests proposals from faculty for developing coursework for hybrid and/or fully online e-Learning courses. Hybrid courses combine face-to-face classroom instruction with computer-based learning. Hybrid courses move a part of course learning online, and as a result, reduce the amount of classroom seat time. Students spend more time working individually and collaboratively on assignments, projects, and activities. Faculty members spend less time lecturing and more time reviewing and evaluating student work and guiding/interacting with students. Hybrid courses are:
- Not traditional “distance education” courses (not entirely online)
- Not simply traditional courses with a web site
- Not just transferring information to the web
- Not all alike
These grants will be available for faculty seeking to develop innovative hybrid and/or fully online courses to support the application of Blackboard, Streaming Video, Horizon Wimba, and Video Conferencing. Strategies for enhancing learning should be the driver of the grant and technology should be the tool. Proposals should include topics relating to a combination of a minimum of two or more of these application areas. It is important for faculty to work with VITRC during the entire project. Grantees will be required to demonstrate acceptable progress. See below for details.

Grant Overview
These grants are made possible through the VITRC department whose mission is to enhance the teaching and learning process in the university community by promoting the integration of emerging technological tools into classroom instruction. VITRC will award up to four $2000 grants. The grants are meant to be an incentive for faculty to adapt current courses or create new courses to enhance the e-Learning environment at LTU. Any costs associated with the course development (videos, books, equipment, etc.) should be paid by University and/or Departmental funds.

Grant Proposal Submission Criteria
Grant proposals will include the following:
- general description of the course (indicate if new or modification)
- necessary pre- or co-requisite courses
- proposed goals and/or objectives
- case statement describing the instructional strategies that will enhance student learning
- case statement outlining the technologies/innovations in the proposed course
- strategy for assessing student learning
- number of students directly effected
- reference material (if any)
- plan for periodic demonstration of progress including timeline
- plan for dissemination
- plan for course evaluation (including student survey with testimonial)
- faculty members should submit a letter of support from their department chair
- adjunct faculty members should have taught for a minimum of three semesters at LTU at the time of submission
- VITRC encourages teamwork and collaboration; therefore more than one faculty member may participate in a single proposal. Proposals should indicate how the funding should be divided.

Grant Proposal Acceptance Criteria
Grant awardees will be expected to:
- implement proposed work within one academic year by (Summer 2008)
- submit a mid-point report demonstrating acceptable progress (submittal is expected within 30 days of mid-point)
- final report evaluating if and how course goals and/or objectives were met (submittal is expected within 60 days of course completion)
- submit work to an educational conference and/or journal to broadly disseminate their work and to promote e-Learning; if the abstract is accepted, cost of attending the conference should be separate from the grant award and provided by the grantee’s department and/or college
- conduct an on-campus seminar/presentation to demonstrate the course to LTU faculty and staff (should demonstrate results of course evaluation including student survey with testimonial)
- work with VITRC to train others on how to implement the results in other courses

Grant Proposal Review Process
Grants will be evaluated using a grading rubric by an independent three-member faculty panel and certified by VITRC. The selection will be based on educational merit, level of innovation, number of students impacted, and overall assessment/dissemination plans.

Grant Award Schedule
Grants will follow the following award schedule for this year:
Deadline for proposal submission – To Be Announced
Announcement of grant winners – To Be Announced
Facilitation of course – To Be Announced

Grant Award Criteria
- Grants cannot be awarded for proposals that are awarded other LTU grants (no “double-dipping”)
- Grantees will receive $500 upon selection, $500 upon demonstrating to VITRC acceptable progress at mid-point, and $1000 upon completion of the proposal
- Completion of the proposal includes: teaching the course, evaluating the course (including student survey with testimonial) to determine the impact on the students’ learning experience during the semester, submitting a final written report to VITRC, conducting an on-campus seminar or presentation to LTU faculty and administration, informing VITRC of which educational conference and/or journal the grant recipient(s) plan on submitting their work, work with VITRC to train others on how to implement the results in other courses.
