Lawrence Tech hosts ASHRAE sustainability seminars March 11

Southfield, Mich. The Center for Sustainability at Lawrence Technological University will host Seminars On Sustainability: SOS for the Environment Conference and Expo on Tuesday, March 11, from noon to 8 p.m.

The annual conference, which is presented by the Detroit Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), will feature speakers from industry and academia on various topics related to sustainability of the built environment. Sustainability essentially means humankind’s long-term survival through designing in a way that necessary resources remain available for future generations.

Luncheon keynote speaker Kathryn Savoie, an ecologist with more than 20 years experience, will give a presentation on climate change. Conference attendees can select four of 12 hour-long seminars on topics such as the latest green technologies for high performance buildings, federal and state policies and initiatives for green design, ASHRAE energy standards for green and LEED-certified buildings, and legal concerns in sustainable building design.

Glen LeRoy, dean of the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Tech, will close the conference with a review of sustainable community design and development practices for Detroit and southeast Michigan.
