Lawrence Tech steel bridge team repeats as regional champions

Southfield, Mich. – For the second year in a row, the Steel Bridge Team at Lawrence Technological University took first-place honors in the North Central Regional Conference competition held at Michigan State University in East Lansing earlier this month.

Michigan Technological University finished second in the competition and Michigan State was third.

Team members Jacob Van Horn of Clarkston, Michael Mitchell of Hartland, Joseph Wallace of Eastpointe and Erica Hume of Canton finished first in four out of six categories – construction speed, construction economy, lightness and structural efficiency.

The team will represent the region in the national championships to be held at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla., May 23-25.

The faculty advisors are Assistant Professor Elin Jensen and adjunct faculty member Stefan Newhaeuser.
