Southfield, Mich. – Peter Horbury, executive director of design for the Americas at Ford Motor Company, will speak at Lawrence Technological University as part of the ArchiLecture series on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. His topic will be “Aim for the Heart, Not the Head.” 

The ArchiLecture presentation, which is hosted by the College of Architecture and Design, will be in the Architecture Building auditorium, room A200, on the Southfield campus at 21000 West Ten Mile Road. The lecture is open to the public and free of charge.

Since 2004, Horbury has been responsible for overseeing the design strategy and execution for all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury products in North and South America. Previously he had been responsible for future product design strategy and designs for Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo.

Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Horbury has been involved in the design of more than 50 cars as well as trucks, buses and motorcycles during a 32-year career. He was design director for Volvo for more than 10 years and earlier in his career worked for Ford in Europe and Chrysler.

In September, Lawrence Tech launched a new bachelor’s degree program in transportation design that provides an understanding of how engineering issues impact the design of automobiles and other modes of transportation.
