Weinstein named department chair at Lawrence Tech

Southfield, Mich. – Melinda Weinstein has been named chair of the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Communication (HSSC) in the College of Arts and Sciences at Lawrence Technological University. 

The department offers programs in business management, the humanities and social sciences, media communication, English and communication arts, psychology, radio and television broadcasting, and technical and professional communication.

Weinstein joined Lawrence Tech as assistant professor in 2000 after completing her Ph.D. in literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She became an associate professor in 2006.  She is an active scholar in mythology and English literature, an artist and a poet.  

As department chair, Weinstein will lead several important strategic initiatives, including Lawrence Tech’s new Quest Program, a co-curricular experiential learning initiative for students who are earning bachelor’s degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Lawrence Technological University, ltu.edu, offers over 80 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs in Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Management. Founded in 1932, the 4,500-student, private university pioneered evening classes 75 years ago, and today has a growing number of weekend and online programs. Lawrence Tech’s 102-acre campus is in Southfield, with education centers in Lansing, Livonia, Clinton Township, Traverse City and Petoskey. Lawrence Tech also offers programs with partner universities in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
